For maximum app performance, when installing the SoarKid child app for the first time, you need to grant it permissions for microphone access, notification display, and disable battery optimization for the app. If permissions were not granted initially, they can be enabled in the app settings for SoarKid.
Required Permissions:
- Microphone - Check that the permission is set to "Allow all the time" / "While using the app". If "Ask every time" is selected, listening to the child may not work from the background (when the app is minimized or closed).
- Disable battery optimization for the app (to prevent Android from "killing" it in the background or restricting microphone operation).
- Notifications - Allow notifications for the app. On some Android versions, the app will not work in the background without this.
- On some phone models (Xiaomi, Huawei, Honor, Realme, Oppo, Vivo, Asus, etc.), there is an auto-start setting. It is recommended to add SoarKid to the auto-start list.
Starting with Android 12 and above, Google has further restricted apps from starting microphone listening in the background due to security policies. For example, if the phone is rebooted, an app with microphone permissions cannot start automatically. Similarly, after some time, the phone may close all background services to optimize resources, and restarting the app might fail due to restrictions on microphone access. In this case, the app may crash with an error message, or the parent app might show the child as "Online," but the audio will not be transmitted.
On Android 12 and above, when an app uses the microphone, a special indicator (a green dot/icon) appears in the status bar.
To close the app (including from the background), you need to tap the "three dots" in the top right corner within the SoarKid app and select "Exit".
If the app was reinstalled, the connection needs to be re-established. To do this, in the system settings for the parent app "Sound Around Kid," you need to clear the data and cache, or delete and reinstall the app. Then, upon the first launch of the app, a 6-digit code will appear, which needs to be entered in the SoarKid app during its first launch.
It is recommended to periodically check the app's functionality, for example, before the child leaves the house.
